It’s time for more MATH! Only because it’s so much fun. Last time (on Dragon Ball Z!) we discussed the 10,000 hour rule and determined that a person would have to work for 402 days (or 1 year, one month, and one day (roughly speaking)) nonstop to reach full mastery with the musical instrument. Given that this is impractical, and given that I have other things to do, and given that I want to complete this goal, I have to formulate a different plan with more reasonable limits.

It’s easy. All you have to do is follow the steps.

I’ve determined that I have to design a practice sheet and track my progress in order to hold myself accountable. It is unfortunate that I have not been doing so up until this point, as I have no way to even estimate how much time I have spent already. I would place myself at roughly 33% of the way to my personal satisfaction, but I want 10,000 hours confirmed. So I may have to start over. It depends on what the math looks like. I seriously don’t know what is practical yet. Shall we get started?

If the goal is to reach 10,000 hours of practice, and you spend 1 hour of practice a day, it would take you 10,000 days to reach your goal. There are 365 days in a year (roughly speaking); 10,000 ÷ 365 = 27 years. (If I had started when I should have, I could have been there by now. Live and learn.) That’s a little bit much. I believe the problem could be mitigated by putting in more time each day. 2 hours a day would half that. (10,000 hours ÷ 2 hours a day = 5,000 days = d; d ÷ 365 (days in a year) = 14 years (13.69…rounded up). )That’s a little better. The most I’d be willing to do, to start, is 2.5 hours a day, and only on days when schedule allows. But if I did it every day, it would take (10,000 hours ÷ 2.5 hours a day = 4,000 = d; d ÷ 365 (days in a year) = 11 years (10.95…rounded up).) That’s a good first chart. I think I could do better. I think I could get it done in 10. (But that’s not entirely up to me.)

The next step is to build and share the practice sheet. Then it will be up to me to use it to document and track my progress as I move closer to the ultimate goal. It will be an interesting exercise to see how far I make it. Either way, it should provide me plenty of content to continue my project until I am content that I have reached my satisfaction.

Satisfaction is not guaranteed.

How thrilled are we?

Very thrilled. Have some vocabulary words from Crime and Punishment

That’s all for now.
Until next time,
Thank you;

I still have topics in the queue from yesterday. I think it’s probably good to spread them out as it pleases my self. (And I am very pleased.)
